Nursing Students - Go to School in Your Pajamas!

Nursing Pajamas

Thousands of people go to school in their pajamas every day. By using distance learning to obtain your Associate's Degree in Nursing, you can enjoy studying in a relaxed atmosphere while working toward your goal of becoming an RN.

Nursing Pajamas

Advancing your career from LPN to RN, Paramedic to RN, or RT to RN is your ticket to job security! While it can be challenging for some to commute back and forth to school and figuring out child care while balancing a full schedule, distance learning students don't have those things to worry about. If you are a Licensed Practical Nurse, Paramedic, or Respiratory Therapist looking to become an RN, distance learning is a convenient solution for you. Distance learning programs allow you to take courses from the comfort and convenience of your home or during your downtime!

Don't waste time and money commuting back and forth to school several times a week, just pull up a chair and get started wherever you're comfortable.

Don't arrange and incur the extra expense for a babysitter to watch your kids while you're at class on campus several times a week. You can be in your home with them studying while they do their homework or play.

Don't rearrange your work schedule for school, simply study when you want and test when you're ready. If you learn better early in the day, during down time at work, while your child practices baseball, or late into the evening, that's perfect! You decide when, where, and how long!

The demands of a family, a full or part-time job, and other responsibilities can make the thought of getting your Associate's Degree in Nursing seem like a dream that will never become a reality. However, with the convenience and flexibility of distance learning nursing degree programs you can move from LPN to RN, Paramedic to RN, or RT to RN without disrupting your entire life.

The Right Nursing Scrub For Your Body Shape

Nursing Pajamas

To look good should not be limited by the job you have. Meaning, it does not mean that because you are a nurse and you are always wearing lab coats or nursing scrubs disqualifies you for desiring to look good and emphasize your body with your uniform. Well, this part is not that hard. Many health care workers had been doing experiments on their medical scrubs and had been so fashionista while having a rugged scrub on. For that part, a two thumbs up. However, it sad to admit that not all nurses or health care workers were blessed with a Hollywood girl body. And the main issue that needed to be solved here is not about being a fashionista in scrub but bring fashion to the right concept. Of course, nobody wants to see a huge woman wearing a no-no dress walking down the aisle a clinging stethoscope around her neck and equipped with those metal chart holder. So the basic rule is; know your body shape or built and proceed with garments. Here are the tips.

Nursing Pajamas

Big Chested

You are greatly blessed. Yes! And you need to get emphasis on that. With this you need to get away of those nursing scrubs with big prints and just be well good on plain colored apparels. Oh, and do not forget to get a better "support system" in order for you to look having a strong torso and avoiding that sagging instances.

Pear-Shaped

Do not dwell on the imbalances but rather dwell on the focus. Show some skin from the nape or neck, go for wide v-neck scrubs as this will divert attention from the body to your face. And to minimize the size of your hips, its good you elongate your legs with straight cut pants.

Full Figured

You already have what it takes. Flaunt it. But never overdo it. Add more weight to your look by using darker colors instead of those slimming light ones. Pick a jacket if you need too, this will help up boost you.

Petite

Tipping is a bad word and do not let yourself get overwhelmed by this. Big prints for your nursing scrubs will surely put you out of proportion and will swallow your small frame. Make everything small; do not wear big accessories as it will get more attention. Show some flesh out to retain proportion.

Tall

Choose some edgy design of scrub tops like a square neck top. But make sure that the edgy thing goes horizontal and not vertical. You need to contradict your height with a little of flat lying prints in horizontal.

Long-Waisted

Light colored garments are best for this type of body shape. Cut some continuity by using Empire Scrubs with waist ribbons. Flaunt big accessories like pastel colored watch and use tops with big prints.

Athletic

A little emphasis to your waist will give you bombs of attention as you flatter your top. Flared pants can give more focus on your waist and hips than on your legs so it's a good style to use. Consider a tailored scrub tops to fit exactly your shape and to avoid a lousy look.

The Traditional Nurses Uniform Versus Nursing Scrubs

Nursing Pajamas

When you first think of the words nurses' uniform, what images conjure up in your head? Perhaps you think about the more traditional nurse in a dress and cap. You might think of a nurse as simply wearing a pair of barco scrubs. Some of you might first think of a nurses Halloween type costume. Whatever images first come to your mind, the nurses' uniform has undergone some major changes within the last century.

Nursing Pajamas

Some of the first nurses' uniforms were actually quite similar to that of a nun's habit. This is due to the fact that nuns used to be the ones who attended to the sickly people, therefore the nurses uniforms were made in a similar look. In general, a nurse's old style uniform consisted of a dress with an apron and a cap. This style seemed to stick around for quite some time with just a few minor changes over the years.

Here within the last twenty years, nursing scrubs have become more popular than the more traditional nurses' uniform. In addition to being easier to clean than the dress and apron, scrubs are generally more comfortable to wear. Nowadays scrubs are worn by generally the entire medical profession. Surgeons, pediatricians, dentists, and veterinarians just to name a few all usually wear scrubs.

Although scrubs are generally worn and accepted by those in the medical profession, there are those people who like wearing the scrubs, and there are those who would rather wear the traditional nurses' uniform. Those who would rather wear the traditional uniform generally believe that wearing scrubs is like wearing your pajamas to work. They also feel that their patient's would be able to recognize them as nurses in the traditional garb versus wearing the scrubbs that even the housekeeping staff wears. Those who prefer the scrubs believe that they are much more functional when it comes to comfort. They are also trying to dislodge the stereotype for nurses that the traditional garb often generates. Not to mention that in today's world, there are many male nurses in the field who would obviously be offended by the traditional garb.

Whichever side of the fence you happen to be on depends on your own personal style. In most cases it also depends on which generation you belong to. The traditional nurses' uniform now seems to be a blast from the past. However, there are still some countries in which they still wear the traditional uniform rather than scrubs. Either way, the nurses that provide us care each and every day deserve our utmost respect and thanks for doing their hard jobs. Without nurses most of us who walk into a hospital's emergency room would be missing out on the genuine care that only nurses seem to provide.

Cheap Landau Scrubs Celebrate the Evolution of Nursing Uniforms

Nursing Pajamas

Nurses' uniforms have not been uniform. From early nurse's attire to today's outfits, they have undergone a major transformation, throughout the years. Today, uniforms such as cheap landau scrubs have become popular in clinics and hospitals throughout the world. However, scrubs have not always been as prevalent as attire for nurses, as they are now. Thus, it is important to have a better understanding of nurses' past uniforms, to better appreciate today's uniforms. Here are some key elements:

Nursing Pajamas

1. The first nurse's uniform

If the first nurses uniform resembles the habit of a nun, that is because it was modeled after the long, loose clothing. Prior to the 1800s, nuns were the people who cared for ill people. Thus, the first nurse's uniform resembled nuns' habits.

During the Crimean War, Florence Nightingale unendingly served as a nurse, treating the war's wounded British soldiers. She later founded the first nursing school based on science, thus initiating the profession of trained nursing. It was actually one of Nightingale's first students, Ms. Euphemia Van Rensselaer, who developed the first uniforms for Nightingale's nursing school.

2. British national nurses uniforms

Nurses' uniforms have evolved in the UK, since the launch of the country's National Health Care in 1948. Various changes in uniforms have occurred. In the 1960s, open necks appeared. Then in the following decade, the 1970s, disposable caps of paper replaced cotton versions. In the 1980s, nurses wore plastic aprons, and wore outerwear less often. Finally, while scrubs became popular in the 1990s, the majority of British nurses continued to wear dresses.

3. "Standard" nurses uniforms

Though nurses' uniforms have become more informal in many nations, the "standard" nurse's uniform has remained basically standard. Typically, a standard uniform has included a dress, a cap, and a pinafore apron. Some alternatives include a cobber apron replacing the pinafore apron, and a nursing pin. A nursing pin indicates from which school a nurse has recently graduated. Developing countries tend to use standard uniforms.

4. Contemporary nurses uniforms

Beginning in the late 1980s, some nations began using nurses' uniforms that were more contemporary than "standard" uniforms. One alternative was a tunic topic, and dark blue pants. The tunic's color was based on the nurse's level. A second alternative included a dress that was the same color as the tunic top of the first alternative.

5. Scrub shirts, pants, and dresses

Scrubs, which include: 1) a set of shirt and pants, or 2) a dress, have become increasingly popular as medical attire. This clothing is much more comfortable and hygienic than standard nurses uniforms. Some nurses argue that scrubs give nurses an appearance that is overly casual. Nevertheless, scrubs have become particularly popular in developed regions of the world, including the United States and Western Europe.

Should nurses' uniforms be traditional or contemporary? Regardless, it is undeniable that scrubs provide nurses with practical and hygienic clothing. Ultimately, this helps them to provide superior service, when tending to their patients. It is not the uniform that Florence Nightingale designed, though it honors her spirit of progress.

Sample Menu for Nursing Moms

Nursing Pajamas

It is great to have a sample menu that includes healthy meals for while you are breastfeeding. Menu planning should include at least three meals and two or three snacks per day. There should be very little to no empty calories and very little to no sugar filled snacks.

Nursing Pajamas

There are so many nutrients and vitamins that are necessary to your diet that there is no room left for snacks that do not have a nutritious value. Breastfeeding women need more servings of calcium, iron, protein, and good fat. The American Academy of Pediatrics says breastfeeding women should have five servings of calcium rich foods per day.

Sample meals should not be eaten every day exactly the same. It is suggested to replace each food or meal every day with a new item that has similar properties. For example, if your sample meal says eat an apple with peanut butter for a snack, that snack consists of an apple which is a complex carbohydrate and peanut butter which is full of protein and polyunsaturated fat or good fat. The next day you could replace that same snack idea with different items such as a bowl of protein packed cottage cheese with berries of your choice. This way you are getting similar nutrition out of different foods.

Here is a sample menu that includes one day of meals. For breakfast, have a bowl of sugar-free, whole grain cereal such as Autumn Wheat by Kashi with a handful of blueberries on top and milk. If your newborn has a sensitive tummy to you drinking cow's milk, replace it with rice milk. Your morning snack can be a banana with peanut butter or cottage cheese. For lunch, try a turkey burger with avocado on a whole grain bun. Add a small green salad on the side with some cheese and sesame seeds. A good afternoon snack is yogurt and grapes. For dinner, have one piece of grilled chicken breast with your favorite rub or marinade. Add some roasted sweet potatoes and steamed broccoli as sides.

Make sure to drink a lot of water throughout the day. Invest in a good water bottle that you like in a few fun colors and keep it filled regularly. This will entice you to have it next to you at all times.

A Guide to Nursing Schools

Nursing Pajamas

Introduction

Nursing Pajamas

The medical, as well as the dictionary, definition of a nurse is the healthcare professional engaged in the practice of nursing. Nurses are men and women responsible for the safety and recovery of chronically ill or injured people, and treatment of life-threatening emergencies in a wide-range of healthcare settings. Nurses are involved in medical and nursing research. Nursing schools are educational institutions, where aspiring nurses undergo training to become a full-fledged nurse. The nature of training and qualifications varies considerably across the world. Currently, nursing schools offer more than 350 master's programs in nursing. The degrees awarded by various schools may differ, but the core or essence of most masters' programs remains similar.

Training

Nursing is one of the most satisfying careers to pursue, but is not what you see in movies or soap operas. It is hard work, and learning to become a nurse requires dedication and long hours of study and preparation. Unlike many other disciplines in which the academic curriculum has foundation courses with many related subject areas, nursing schools offer courses usually build on one another. As such, a weakness in one area may cause academic problems in the remainder of the nursing sequence. In nursing schools, some programs are specially designed for students who are already registered nurses, but want to give their career that extra boost. The students should make certain whichever school they attend, is accredited by the National League for Nursing (NLN).

There is an ever-increasing demand for nursing school graduates in hospitals, schools, clinics, public health agencies, and many other establishments throughout the world. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) predicts a nursing shortage of 12% by year 2010 or an estimated shortage of 260,000 professional nurses. For prospective nursing graduates that represent an astounding opportunity, to safely secure their career both on a personal and financial level. The opportunities presented are all the more, for students graduating from top nursing schools.

Capitalizing on these mind-boggling figures, the number of nursing schools in recent years has grown exponentially. Therefore, the aspiring student must verify the credentials of nursing schools, before actually enrolling in one. Nowadays, a variety of online nursing schools have also spawned for working professionals. These online institutes allow the students to attend their classes virtually, and complete the training modules from the comfort from their homes. However, the sustainability and dependability of such online nursing schools is very much in doubt, since the students need on-site clinical training if they aspire to work in the healthcare industry.

I love when the warm weather starts each spring and summer season because it means I can finally bring out my favorite fashion staple: the dress. Whether it is a sundress, a maxi-dress, or a cute LBD, I wear dresses every chance I get. For a variety of reasons they have become my favorite fashion staple. Dresses are effortless, comfortable, and easily create a fashionable outfit with just one piece of clothing. They can be dressed up or dressed down, worn for a night out on the town or for a day at the beach. When nursing, dresses are a great staple to pepper your wardrobe with, as you will find comfort, practicality, and fashion all in one. Nursing dresses are stylish yet functional, and the variety available ensures that every nursing mom will find something to fit her needs.

Nursing Home Resident Gift Ideas

Nursing Pajamas

Every year caregivers in nursing homes and assisted living facilities must deal with the challenge of gift ideas to their resident's. In an attempt to make this task a little easier for you, here are some ideas for gifts as well as a few ways in which you might consider distributing the gifts to the resident's in your facility.

Nursing Pajamas

Give each resident a paper cut out Christmas picture (tree, bell, angel, star) and ask them to write on the back, their name and a few items they might like to receive, maybe some things they need. These can then be put on a wall, bulletin board, or a Christmas tree and staff can pick them and use them to buy gifts for the residents.

You might want to have a dollar limit of or so, or this could get quite expensive. A list should be kept as well, of the resident's names and the staff member who picked them. You don't want to find, at the last minute, that some residents were missed. It could be helpful to have the purchased gifts brought in a few days before you are handing them out, just to go through your list and be sure everyone is accounted for.

If there is a possibility that staff may not want to buy for some specific residents, for whatever personal reasons, maybe picking names anonymously would be better. They could draw names out of a hat. To take the anonymous idea one step further, you could simply have staff choose male or female and then each resident gets whatever is gifted for their gender, rather than items specific for them. It might also be an idea to have a few of these types of gifts available for new residents arriving to your facility who came after your lists were made up. You really don't want anyone missed.

If there are just too many residents for the staff to purchase for, consider asking local churches or organizations like Boy Scouts to participate.

Another gift idea is to put together some beautiful baskets that can be raffled off. The raffle tickets can be easy enough to make with a computer and printer, then stapled together. The baskets could be themed such as "Beauty" with lotions and soaps, or "Movies" with popcorn, candy, a movie DVD, etc. The tickets could be sold for a dollar or two to resident's families as they come to visit, or the boy scouts could sell them for you. The money could be used to help buy gifts for the residents as well, or pay for some of the Christmas party.

The gifts can be taken to each resident's room, or handed out by Santa at a Christmas Party.

You could also have some extra fun distributing the gifts at a party if you had a large plastic dice the residents could throw, taking turns. If they throw a number you have chosen specific for the game, such as a 4 for example, they can choose from the gift wrapped gifts under the tree. These should be labelled male or female. Then some time could be added after the gifts were all chosen and before they are unwrapped, for a swapping round. If another particular number is rolled on the dice, the resident can choose to swap with another person or keep what they have. Game over when the time is up.

Gift ideas

These are also good gift ideas for senior citizen's that are not in a care facility.

Inexpensive gift ideas:

stuffed animals clothes pyjamas sweaters shoes socks slippers scarves hats gloves underwear nail polish books (fiction, history, hobby specific, large print, audio, picture) magazines puzzle books (word search/crossword) jigsaw puzzles box of greeting cards (they can use throughout the year to write to friends) stationary pens games music CD's craft items tissues lotions soap candy chocolate cookies coupons deck of cards plaques calendars grooming items personal photo album costume jewellery craft kit
Pricier gift ideas:

disposable camera (and developing) audio books (if you can find or download inexpensive ones) DVD's (old TV series such as Gunsmoke, I Love Lucy, etc) CD's (nature sounds, old time radio shows like Jack Benny, Bob Hope, George Burns, etc) purse wallet Bible Robe lap robe jackets afghan or blanket magnifiers reading lights bird feeders Decorative or ornate box for special items or jewellery picture frames radio clocks If you don't find the exact gift idea that works for the resident or senior you have in mind, these can be a help to get you started. Many of these gift ideas can also be personalized to make them a little more meaningful.

An Introduction to Nursing Software

Nursing Pajamas

The PDA or personal data assistant is among the most recent lightest and smallest and is an increasingly popular handheld device for the medical professional. They can execute many functions as desktop computers.

Nursing Pajamas

There are two major operating systems for the PDA, mainly Palm OS and Pocket PC, which was previously known as Windows CE. At the present time, nursing software market is dominated by the Palm OS. Besides the inbuilt nursing software, one probably needs additional nursing software to realize the full potential of the PE eight. The nursing software used by PDAs can handle many different functions like storing and retrieving patient's medical history. Prescriptions, fluids, vitals, labs, orders, calculators, references, care plans, nursing actions, and hundreds of treatment assessments.

There are several resources were freeware nursing software applications can be downloaded. The nature of nursing software packages usually comes at a price that constantly ranges from for the most basic ones up to 0 for the highly advanced versions. Freeware applications can be found at PDAcortex.com and collectiveman.com sky scape has the most extensive and complete collection of medical reference tools for PDAs.

Since the early 1990s, Skyscape has been providing medical reference data in an insightful and easy to use system offering healthcare professionals solutions that have helped enhance the quality of patient care. Skyscape possesses hundreds of references covering every medical profession and claims that over 400,000 healthcare professionals rely on its nursing software clinical drug and I references for accurate, confident and inform decision-making at point of care.

Time is of the essence in the ICU or intensive care unit and rapid access to this information on the PA is necessary. Keeping track of the up-to-date medical data is critical and indispensable if healthcare professionals need to make well-informed decisions at the point of care. The nurse's software computerize is the medical information such as the clinical educational, research, administrative and quality improvement data, enabling the PDAs to provide instant assessments at your fingertips thereby saving valuable time and perhaps a patient's life.

I have personally met with doctors who use a PDA. In my case, the doctor was checking a new prescription medication that he was going to prescribe for me to make sure there were no side effects that would happen with the other medications I'm taking. It is amazing how fast a doctor can look up drug on the PDA and check its pros and cons before prescribing medication to the patient.

Medicaid is less of Nursing

Nursing Pajamas

First, what is Medicaid ?..........

Nursing Pajamas

Well, Medicaid is a federal health care bills that pays medical expenses for eligible persons and the needy. And 'administered by each state. All payments are made directly to service providers and health care. A person eligible for Medicaid does not pay for health care services. The only exception is a patient in a Medicaid approved nursing facility may be required to contribute part of your / your incometowards the costs of treatment.

Medicaid is the welfare of the poor, the truly poor and honest. Medicaid is not for the media people trying to obtain false depletion on the dole. That door was closed.

That reflects a national problem, the leaders of the nursing home in North Carolina and long-term care facilities that provide Medicaid money that patient care is not sufficient to cover the costs.

Problems grrowing North Carolina reflects a national concern. This is atrend could perhaps send the spiraling crisis in the financial sector, said the head of a reform group.

As the financing of public infrastructure collapses in the next decade or two, we hurt a lot of poor people without access to a decent safety net.

Stacy Flannery, the NC Health Care Facilities Association, said nursing homes in North Carolina are approaching $ 14 per patient for the loss of day care for Medicaid patients. And he said that thethe attention of about 75 percent of patients in nursing homes in North Carolina is paid by Medicaid.

"We are completely at the mercy of Medicaid for our stability," he said. Flannery said that the rate for the current year, ending September 30, rest homes in North Carolina should suffer a loss of $ 117 million for Medicaid patients ..

"You can only bleed private patients who pay a lot," said Flannery.

If no changes are made, employees in the coming decades could be payinglarge amounts of their own income to help pay for the maintenance of health benefits for the elderly and others have said.

At the current rate, 40 percent of all wages would be required to pay Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and benefits for 2050, the Veterans Administration, said Moses.

"The trend can not continue and no," he said.

Flannery would like to see a tax credit reinstated that would give individuals a break if they buy their own insurance for long-term care, andI agree.

In any case, care insurance long term is good for everyone to consider, because you can not count the people and their elected representatives to loosen their pockets at this point. It will not happen in the short term, I believe. This is a fantasy based on an illusion. Period.
